Thriftiness...

A Scout is … thrifty.  I never had to work on that point of the Scout Law – it just came natural.  Being raised for ten years in public housing gives me a unique perspective on public assistance.  On the one hand, government must provide a safety net for those who have genuine needs. As a child, I enjoyed a warm, dry home and “free” school lunches.  But I also was aware of abuses – like the single lady in a nearby unit who intentionally was impregnated a fourth time so she could draw more welfare benefits.  We must be continually vigilant to root out government waste.  I am as thrifty with funds at my church, where I chair our Finance Committee, as I am my own money.  I will be thrifty with your money as well if you choose me to represent you in Indianapolis.  And I will never forget whose money it is: Yours – your hard-earned tax dollars.
